Before and After: The Book of Job
Several years ago, RevelationMedia created a version of Job’s story for The Animated Bible Series on DVD. We are thrilled to show you the transformation that this animation has gone through as we update it for iBIBLE. As we work through the process of dating and producing the content and art for these passages of Scripture, you won’t have to wait long to see the first Job chapter of iBIBLE, Job (Part 1): Tribulation, because it will be released in the next few weeks!
The Making of Job in iBIBLE
Because we had already designed and dramatized Job’s story for The Animated Bible Series, we had an idea of the overarching narrative. The initial version took some adaptive liberties in order to fit the entire story into a 30-minute episode. When we decided to rework it for iBIBLE, we took it back to the drawing board.
The key mission of iBIBLE is to portray the entire narrative of Scripture in an engaging, artistic, and meaningful way using only the Bible for the basis of the story. So, when reexamining the book of Job, we looked at each movement of the story to make sure that the entire narrative was told—and told accurately.
As we read the Scriptures and consulted further Biblical research, we recreated the Job script to align with iBIBLE standards. Instead of one 30-minute episode, we will now break the story down into four iBIBLE episodes:
1. The Tribulation of Job
2. Job’s Friends: Part One
3. Job’s Friends: Part Two
4. The Restoration of Job
The Impact of iBIBLE Research
In the original version, Job is shown wandering off into the wilderness to handle his pain. He suffers outside of city limits and attempts to find respite from his agony alone. In our review of the Bible as we reevaluated the animation, the Scriptural message was clear: that’s not what happened to Job.
Before. Job wanders off into the wilderness alone:
After. Job travels to a scrap heap in the poor area of town:
You can read more about this in a previous iBIBLE Behind the Scenes email called "Enhancing the Story of Job." Scripture makes it clear that Job was around other people in a populated place, and suffered their scorn and lack of sympathy. It also reveals how he ended up in a place of ashes and broken pottery.
In order to be true to what the Scriptures teach, we did away with the wilderness. Instead, at the end of this first iBIBLE episode on the book of Job, we have him wandering into the poorest part of the town. He ends up in the scrap heap (garbage pile) of the city. This is where his wife finds him and suggests that he curse God and die. It is also where his friends find him in the next episode and start giving their advice.
Before. Job's friends meet him in the wilderness:
After. Job's friends visit him by a dead tree near the city wall:
Updating Artwork to iBIBLE Standards
Frame by frame, we explored each piece of art from the book of Job. This was to ensure that this updated version is at the same level of detail and precision as the rest of the iBIBLE series. Many small changes were made in each shot. We are excited for you to see with your own eyes when Job (Part 1): Tribulation is released.
Along with artwork updates in the next chapters, the sets, dialogue, and voices cast are also all new!
