Interpreter of Dreams
Do you ever wonder what takes place between the blank page and the beautiful black and white artwork that you see in an iBIBLE episode? Scene direction, character actions, movement, placement of props, animals, and lighting are all determined in an iBIBLE episode before artists create the detailed scenes that you see. The following sneak-peek into an upcoming episode of iBIBLE Genesis is taken from iBIBLE Episode 32 and the Bible reference is Genesis chapter 40.
The GIF below demonstrates the art team’s early model of the scene where Pharaoh becomes enraged at his chief baker and cupbearer. You can see the text written along with the sketches, showing what other elements and movements will later be incorporated to enrich and complete the scene.
The second GIF is the sequence of the cupbearer’s dream, where a vine with three branches appeared. The cupbearer took the grapes the vine produced and squeezed it into Pharaoh’s cup. Joseph interpreted this in the bearer’s favor, saying how in three days he would be restored to the Pharaoh’s house. Similar to the first GIF, this sequence of scenes (called a “spread”) depicts early sketches of the characters and their surroundings while including written details about what else to include visually for future reference.
The third frame depicts the baker in the dream he asks Joseph to interpret. Here, he’s shown carrying baskets of bread with the birds circling overhead, preparing to come down to eat the bread. You can see the arrows signifying which direction the birds are flying. The dream predicts the baker’s punishment and death at the hands of Pharaoh.
Below is the end product: a beautiful black and white image, showing how the cupbearer's dream came true and he was restored to Pharaoh's house. While it looks quite different from the early stages of the artistic process, every step along the way enriches and adds to the completed iBIBLE episode.
