Rebekah's Jewelry
The art of jewelry making has been around for thousands of years. In iBIBLE Episode 18, Abraham’s servant gives beautiful, gold jewelry to Rebekah at the well of Haran. Look behind the scenes of iBIBLE at the gifts that paved the way for Isaac and Rebekah’s marriage.
The iBIBLE asset library has continued to grow, and has helped to decrease the time needed for the creation of each episode. iBIBLE artists created Rebekah’s jewelry as pieces of this library, so that they could be reused throughout future episodes. Because they only needed to be created once, these pieces of jewelry were drawn with quality and detail in mind. Below are these two bracelets and the ring as they appear in the library.
The Phoenician culture was one of the most similar cultures to early Israel. For this reason, ancient Phoenician jewelry was referenced when creating these pieces of jewelry. The gold bracelets were created as cuffs, while the ring was displayed as a simple circle of gold with a gemstone. This ancient jewelry would have been adorned with gems and beautiful motifs.
These two scenes show the jewelry in the hands of Rebekah, both as Abraham’s servant gave them to her and as Laban saw the gifts: “As soon as he saw the ring and the bracelets on his sister’s arms, and heard the words of Rebekah his sister, “Thus the man spoke to me,” he went to the man.” (Genesis 24:30). Not only did this jewelry show Abraham’s wealth, but it also gained an entrance to the house of Rebekah’s family for Abraham’s servant.
