The Synagogue in Nazareth
This week’s behind-the-scenes glimpse into the making of iBIBLE draws from another developing scene from one of the upcoming iBIBLE Life of Christ episodes that will begin releasing later this year. Let's take a look at the interior of the synagogue in Jesus’ hometown of Nazareth. This location is where Jesus read from the scroll of Isaiah, predicting the coming of the Messiah. After He read, Jesus sat down and said, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing” (Luke 4:17–21).
Here is a broad view of the synagogue with its rows of pillars and seats. The local synagogue was the place of worship, teaching, and where the Scriptures were read out loud before the people.
This second image shows the table at the helm of the synagogue with the scroll sitting unrolled on its surface. This is where Jesus would have gone when he stood up to read from the scroll of Isaiah, which turned out to infuriate His listeners, so much that they tried to drive Him off the edge of a cliff (Luke 4:29).
It has been exciting for our researchers and artists to fine tune the details of synagogue in Nazareth during the days of Jesus. We hope these images can enhance your appreciation for God’s Word and help you look forward to seeing full episode of iBIBLE Life of Christ!
