The Vivid Metaphors Jacob Used to Bless His Sons
Last week, we looked at the surprising way Jacob blessed the sons of Joseph, Ephraim and Manasseh, by placing his right hand on the younger son's head and declaring that he would grow into the greater of the two. For this week’s behind-the-scenes look into the making of iBIBLE, see the fascinating metaphors Jacob employed in the blessing of his own sons, and the creative use of a panorama the art team used to show the future of Israel.
Jacob compared several of his sons to specific animals that would have been native to the surrounding landscape. For instance, Jacob likened Benjamin to a ravenous wolf (Genesis 49:27).
Jacob called Naphtali a doe who would offer beautiful words (Genesis 49:21). Judah, perhaps the most well-known of all of these animal metaphors, was likened to a lion.
Jacob used these familiar animals as metaphors to depict his sons' futures. The iBIBLE art team chose to use a panorama in this episode to show how each brother was distinct in his personality but also shared a part in the future of Israel. This panorama beautifully shows how the nation of Israel would settle in a land of plenty while still having conflict with neighboring nations, which you can see below.
