Luke, the Beloved Physician
Last week, we peeked behind-the-scenes at John writing his Gospel in Ephesus. This week, we are excited to show you brand-new iBIBLE art from Episode 1 of the New Testament! This time, the sneak peek is of another Gospel writer—Luke, the beloved physician.
Luke was a busy man! He was a companion of Paul, a writer of two books of the New Testament, and a physician. His faithfulness, dedication, and character were seen through Paul’s message to the believers in Colossae, “Luke the beloved physician greets you” (Colossians 4:14).
A traveling partner of Paul, the end of the book of Acts indicates that Luke followed him on the perilous trip to Rome. Here, Luke most likely wrote the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts. In the iBIBLE scene above, the city of Rome with its towering temples and commanding statues is drawn outside of Luke’s window as he begins writing his Gospel.
Luke is portrayed as wearing the traditional mantle or himation draped over one of his arms. Physicians during this time period were believed to have worn their mantles in this way for freer movement and to identify themselves as practitioners of medicine.
As we begin to work on the New Testament episodes of iBIBLE, we are excited to research aspects of each of the disciples and the New Testament characters to help bring them to life! Thank you for joining and praying with us as we work toward completing the first ever presentation of God’s Divine narrative. Share the powerful story presented in iBIBLE with your friends, family, and even your entire church. And prayerfully consider making a contribution today in support of this God-sized project.
